This may not be a new change in the SERPS but still have only recently noticed this. I do know that this has been a change over the last two weeks. Anyway this change I think may of come in during the last PR update.

If you search for a global brand such as for example Blackberry or Apple then you will see some slightly different results appear. These results now show the USA SERPS for the bigger brands which is is a bit strange as you would think that after all the geo targeting fuss that has been created then google would not on purpose place US results in UK SERP’s.

Here is a video that Matt Cutts has created to explain why this happens and this is really good to explain the SERPS appearance.

This is brought me to think of something else. Google maps is back in the SERP’s with anger over the last few weeks. It was about 9 months ago when Google Local was not accepting entries and Google appeared to be fazing google maps out of the SERP’s altogether but they seems to be bringing this back into play again.

I am going to have investigate this me thinks.

Today there was a weird SERP’s result found.

Search

This search term shows the below result, which shows one result is totally out of place.

This result above shows one result which has no mention of the specific keyword. When investigated further this result shows a brilliant example of how some misdirected links can get you in the search rankings.

The below image shows the yahoo site explorer links.

These links that are above are the only links that have a connection with the specific keyword, but these links are doing all the hard work to get this site placed where it is at present.

As you can see there is another website there that has a similar name and design. This is a doorway page to the weird SERP’s result that was first seen.

For me this shows that Google is picking up on the doorway page and showing the relevance that it has towards the keyword. Along with this the five links that are present, these are able to get this result ranking well temporarily.

I have full believe though that the result will start to drop down the rankings as it is appears to be a new listing.

I have been looking for info to place on a blog and I thought that I would look at using Tall Trees as I have been there a few times when I was at University in Teesside. Well I stumbled across the website just before and you know what I hate it. You would assume that I hate the website because it is fully built in flash and to be honest is not search engine friendly at all, it only has 8 pages listed in Google and it does not have any real pages at that.

But no that does not annoy me really it is the flash imagery that changes picture and encourages you to have a epileptic fit.

Honestly take a look. http://www.talltrees.co.uk/

After a period where alot of people in SEO thought that keywords were not important it has been announced by google that keywords are not important now.

Google have announced that they use about 200 different signals but keywords is not one of the pivotal ones they look at.

This has been apparent when you look at some SERP’s results. I still believe that even though Google say they fully dont use the some meta details that they will have a small influence in the future.

I know and and totally believe that keywords will never play a big part again but I think that google will be using this exercise as a smoke screen to encourage more people to stop spamming tens and tens of keywords in the meta structure.

I am going to perform a little test off the back of this announcement.

About two weeks ago Google announced that it would start to follow no-follow links. This is basically because developers are using no follow links to scuplt Page rank and juice. this is one of the ways to get more pagerank on a page or a site.

Now though Googles change in algorithym has made people ask questions of will we be able to scuplt page rank or are those days long gone.

Well the answer is yes you can scuplt page rank still. The way that it can be dont is placing a link in a iframe, then blocking the iframe.

I personally would not put much money on it lasting. I think google are just trying to keep developers happy with there announcement about iframes.

I hate iframes aswell…..
